Dichotomy

As I was finishing a fetal MRI this morning and working on a lecture on 3D ultrasound (see picture at left), it occurred to me the incredible dichotomy between my life and career and the life of James' biological mom. Here I am, doing MRIs on babies at 18 weeks so that our fetal surgeons can operate on them in utero (before they're born), yet James will probably have little to no basic prenatal care, much less prenatal imaging. The advances we have made in medicine in the western world are truly great advances. I just wish there was a way we could advance the whole world at the same rate.

Anyway, I was just struck by that. Now I have to go read that fetal MRI that I was doing.
